You are absolutely right. For months my 1299 ran rough with a jerky throttle. My bike would nearly stall around 4500 rpm. Just to see what its like I turned EBC off.I thought it would fell like throwing out an anchor on deceleration. It didn't. It was very smooth. The throttle was no longer jerky. And the 4500 rpm stall is gone.

I also recommend setting ABS to 2. When set at 3, trail braking in corners is very jerky.

...i must admit.....it feels the polar opposite to me:

3 = Least amount of Engine Braking

OFF = Most aggressive Engine Brake - Boat Anchor

it makes sense if you think about it, that the huge pistons of the 1299 would impact the engine braking dramatically....after the 1098 engine series, engine brake control electronics became somewhat mandatory in order to help rear wheel from lock up on de-acceleration

You sir are correct. It's not rocket science...... it's in the manual!!

Quote:

The system allows the rider to set "engine brake”, the
range being from a maximum engine braking with
system set to OFF and progressively decreasing as
level increases.

EBC CHARACTERISTIC DEFAULT

OFF The EBC is disabled.
The engine delivers maximum
engine brake.

1 In this level the engine delivers a considerable engine
brake, but lower than the one that can be obtained with
EBC OFF.

2 In this level the engine delivers a poor engine brake.
This level is recommended to any rider requiring reduced
engine braking in deceleration.
It is the default level for the RACE and
SPORT Riding Modes.

3 In this level the engine delivers the least engine brake.
This level is recommended to any rider requiring very
low engine braking in deceleration.
It is the default level for the WET Riding
Mode.

Thanks...i did in fact post a portion of this a page or 2 back...but it went unnoticed...LOL !!

EBC Setting:
1
Rather important engine brake, but less than that obtained with EBC OFF
It is the default level for all Riding Modes

2
Very low engine brake, recommended only for track use and for riders requiring a low engine brake when decelerating

3
Minimum engine brake, recommended only for track use and for riders preferring a very low engine brake when decelerating

Never mind that, you've just made me feel less of a man by having to admit I've read the manual instead of just getting on with it..............
Thanks from RD16RR

some of this is against what the manual description. like the 195hi engine mode, people including myself have found 195hi to be more predictable and provide better feedback, therefore smoother response. yet the manual states, use 195lo for smoother power delivery, and 195hi for more aggressive drive

is this an issue with the programming of EBC response not really delivering what we as ride would expect, therefore making seem like it's not as smooth?

i personally find the quick shift to be sporadic at best

A lot of this has to do with the pilot I would say..........
