here is a picture of what mine looks like. (not mine but same part number as both of mine)
I figured mine would say BASE rather than FULL but it was not to be.

I am in the process of doing a similar thing. When I saw your post, I threw a base harness on the bike tonight and confirmed I have the same problem as you. If you look at the electrical diagram in the ducati manual, you can see the difference between the ABS vs non-ABS bikes. In the ABS diagram it appears like the bosch abs electronics convert the hall signal from the speed sensors and puts that data on the can-bus. When you replace the harness only it routes those signals to the bbs directly. its possible our bbs units do not have those pins programmed (since our bbs units are intended to work with abs).

I was told from what I believed to be a reputable source that abs removal was possible with only a loom and dash swap. After looking at these diagrams I'm not so sure I believe that. I don't know what is possible with ducati programming though so perhaps someone knowledgeable can add to this thread.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure you'll have the same results whether you connect your speed sensors or not. Likely they are going nowhere.

I can tell you that mating a base model bbs with your S/R model dash will not work. I tried that as well and you'll get an unknown device error.

Sorry I don't have better news. If you sort this out before I do, please share your results.

The dash is the same on all models, the ECM is the same on all models, the BBS says BASE and FULL but my NONE ABS had a BBS FULL. I promise you that if you plug in a new harness you will get errors no matter what else is connected, it you replace the BBS, ECM or anything else you will get errors. the only way to get everything to see each other is to take it to the dealer and have the errors cleared. Ducati in Italy had no idea how to get it to work, my dealer had no clue but was willing to experiment on mine and it turned out to be very easy, But it takes the Ducati Diagnostic tool V2. hope my 6 months and over $1000 in (try this) parts can help someone.

Hi Bret,

Very helpfull information

I think you are right regarding interchange dash and ECU. To prove this - I will make a test tonight on my 2 panigales - one is a base model, the second an S model.

If this is the case, My conclusion based on your expirence is, that for converting you just need new wiring if this is from same type (base or S)
Otherwise - BBS and Wiring if you change type (base or S)

Update to follow

Hi all,

Tried the S dash on the base bike. Got device error, but dtc ans abs seems to work ok, havn't fired the bike up, but changes in settings was possible and seems to be fine after power off/on.

As Bret mentioned earlier, this unknown device error could be reset at the dealer

Finally it's working

I removed the ABS unit on my S ABS. I changed the wiring loom to a S NON ABS wiring loom and the BBS to a S NON ABS BBS unit.

It works and no error codes
Thanks from BowHunter and Autoblipper

I have done the harness swap. Does the sw ver on the base bbs have to match the bbs full you removed? I tried this with the only base bbs I could get my hands on. It was a sw ver 15 (off a 2012 bike). The original bbs full was ver 20 (off a 2013 bike). When I swapped the base in I got 'unknown device' error.

385.1.015.2A (original 2013 bbs with abs)
385.1.012.1D (replacement 2012 bbs without abs)

This did not work for me.

Is Your bike a Base or a S?

If You have a Base, You need to use a NON ABS wiring loom from a Base and a NON ABS BBS from a Base. Same with S. You can't put a Base BBS on a S and vice versa.

385.1.015.2A is from a S
385.1.012.1D is from a Base

You need a NON ABS BBS unit from a S.
