I Ride: 2013 1199S
I checked the manufacteres date on the " R" at the New York show. 7/2012. It might have been an "S" dressed as an " R "??? IDK.. I was disappointed that it didn't have the oil sight through hole. The only model at the show that had it was the Arctic White version.

I Ride: '15 R and a Pikes Peak
From what I was told from one of my friends who's a salesman at the Seattle show the "R" wasn't an actual R. It didn't have the adjustable swingarm pivot or the engine internals, just a dressed up S for the show.... Just my 2 cents

Tricolores are common

Tricolores are not rare at all. They used to be sold the first year only and were fairly rare but not anymore. Ducati sold them last year and they are selling them again this year. Where I live you see them quite frequently. The "R" will be the rarest of the breed. By the way, the changes to the "R" are significant. For example, that 500 rpm increase doesn't seem like a lot but it sure is when you get to the end of the revs between corners and you wish you had a bit more in the gear you are in because the next higher gear is too much. Additionally, I own a well appointed Tricolore and I think it is an awesome and beautiful bike, but it is for sale, and if I keep an 1199 in my stable, it will be an "R."

i think it's a shame that Ducati did not make the Tri a limited run bike but i don't think they plan on making the R one either.

Numbers

That remains to be seen, but nevertheless, there will be a lot less "R's" vs Tricolores or any other editions of the 1199 for that matter. And, the "R" will also be the most potent version of this fantastic Superbike. In my opinion, that makes it the most desirable one within the line. Furthermore, I think it is the most beautiful of all the 1199's. Of course, my comment on aesthetics is purely subjective.

Is the Termi heat shield now glossy? Mine is satin but prefer glossy.

Does anyone know if that is the Ducati Race Seat or is it the stock seat with a different material covering it?

The Termi full system heat shield is glossy, since it is made from a different source than the DP stuff.

Give it another 18 months and Ducati will bring out another model that will be better than the R they will probably call it the "R Corse".

As for there being alot less R's than Tricolores i don't see why that would be the case unless they decide to make it a limited edition if they don't then Ducati will keep on producing them till demand dies down and a new version will then be released.
