If you had a 2013 1199R you wouldn't be saying that!

Well when I've finally sold the house and downsized I'll consider getting 1 (A 2015R). An awesome looking machine.

Even when you've got an SL?

Allegedly........

I'm still wanting a review for the 2015 R. It seems that Ducati are waiting so that the 1299 and the R can't be put side by side. Even on their own website it won't allow you to use the 'compare' feature for those two bikes!

The 2015 R has got to be something massively special to put down the 1299 S. But how?! Is it really going to be that much better?

I have the 2015 R on order but I'm sh*tting my pants as I may have made the wrong choice!?!

Buy the 1299 base, uprate the suspension, full Akra/power commander, over 205 bhp, more torque (as standard!) and leave the R standing, still for less cash?!?!

More to the point, are Ducati planning a 1299 R anyway (not to replace the 1199 R for WSBK reasons) as an addition to the range?

I Ride: Anything with 2 wheels!
On a desktop, not phone or iPad, go to ducati.com -> Panigale -> discover it. One of the tabs allows you to look at all three models side by side by side.

Don't bust out a pair of Depends just yet.....either bike is going to be great, the most meaningful difference in riding the bikes would be the massive difference in the torque curve...the S will be immediate by comparison to the R (which has got a great torque curve in itself) but the S is simply instant torque in the lower rpm range.....nice to have track or street....the R, well.....have fun doing your homework on it.....

Isn't it great having choices ?

1) What immediately stands out is the compression ratio 13.2:1 for the R and 12.6:1 for the base/S - Advantage R

2) Weight 406 lbs wet for the R and 420 lbs wet for the S/base Advantage R

3) Torque 100.5 ft-lbs @ 10,250 RPM's for the R and 106 Ft-lbs @ 8,750 RPMs advantage R (even though the S/base has more torque you really don't want your max torque to come on too early in the rev range).

4) R- $33,995 USD, S $24,995, Base $19,295

As it stands out the door performance wise the R is the better bike due to the compression ratio, weight, and proper torque placement in the rev range. if you like to tinker and do Mods. You can easily turn a base into a superior bike with less money than an R with higher compression pistons new cam , aftermarket Ohlins and light wheels. I think the R is basically tapped out in performance before you have to start using race gas all the time. For the base/S there is a lot of room for improvement to make one hell of a bike. I would do it all over again with a base model because I know with $14,700 to spend the way I want it, I can easily have a superior bike than the R with a base.

Warning! it will be very expensive to try and drop 16 lbs off the bike.

Scrapper...I am intrigued as to why you say this???

For a street bike like the S and Base its Ok because you are in the lower and mid ranges. For the track/racing you want to be able to pull hard down the straights at top speeds. For mid corner and corner exits you can easily be down a gear to get the torque you need but in 6th gear down a straight you want the torque up high. My rationale in the previous post for performance was assuming racing/track.
Thanks from Phl and Stw
