Red face Question about placing a deposit for a 1299S

Hi everyone,

I am looking to buy a 1299S after seeing the leaked V4 pictures.

I want to wait till November to make sure the V4 is still unchanged from the leaks - do you think there is a good chance dealers will have stock remaining in November/early next year?

Do any of you remember what happened when the panigale was introduced - was the 1098 still available for some time? My dealer said the last shipment of 1299 is on the way so he doesn't know if there will be any left in the new year. I am thinking about placing a deposit (non-refundable) but its pretty large at 5k as they need to guarantee a bike for me.

PS: For the ones in Australia, I was quoted a 37k ride away price - is that reasonable or should I try and get it down lower? Would there be better deals available on remaining stock in 2018?

Thanks!

There'll be some 1299's around, you may just need to get one shipped to you.

I've bought three bikes remotely. My 1098S was bought in MA and shipped by the dealer to me in Orlando, FL.

I've bought two Aprilia Tuono's, from MD and had them delivered to my house just outside Nashville, TN.

The last Tuono came via UPS.

At the end of my driveway.

So worst case scenario, you might have to incur shipping charges, but on the other hand, there will also be plenty of lightly used 1299's around, with lots of add on goodies.

I bought extended warranties on both my '15 Multistrada and 1299S, so a factory warranty doesn't concern me too much. Both bikes have full bumper to bumper coverage for 7 years.
Thanks from josh

I'll repeat that same sentiment. Don't believe those photos. And if you do end up wanting the 1299 there should be some left. AMS in Dallas had a 2014 1199 brand new that didn't sell until maybe 6-10 months ago.
Thanks from maslov and josh

A bit different in Australia, not a huge stockpile here. And we get assaulted on prices, I paid a few months ago $16000AU for a 2013 Base 1199. It's a small market and the importer Frazers (who are also the main retailer) are a bunch of fukwits, bring in small numbers and keep the prices high that's the strategy and it works really well for them.

This is only my bitter and jaded opinion.
Thanks from josh

Thanks a lot everyone for your suggestions. I will wait till EICMA and then take a decision. There is a dealers meeting happening in mid-october in Italy so we should hopefully get some more news around then
