Clever!

I got a Hero3 for Christmas and that would've been a good solution. But, I put the smoked windscreen on before the I got the camera and now I'm not sure what I'm going to do.

Simple, just use a taller Ram extension - they as tall as 6":

RAM Long Double Socket Arm for 1" Ball Bases. Overall Length: 6"

very easy, cut a square of plastic. Drill an hole in the middle and then use this thing here to fix it in the nut hole.

1/8 in. x 2 in. Zinc-Plated Steel Mushroom-Head Toggle Bolt Anchors-10242 at The Home Depot

Thanks from OneArmBandit

Just do this with a taller bracket, and it will see over the sheild.

Have you even tried it? I used to have a dark smoke screen on my GSXR and even the old video camera I had filmed straight through the near black screen with no issues. You shouldn't have any problems.

There's a cap at the bottom of the triple clamp.

That Home Depot screw/wingnut is what Brickcues and I are referring to. (in conjunction with the Ram Mounts)

That's a good thought, but I think if I put in on the tank to overlook the windscreen it will be in the way. I might try it out. I also have the adhesive mounts and may try that somewhere. But, not sure how secure they would be on the road.

I didn't ride with it, but put it on to see. It might work if the entire view is through the windscreen, but with the newer camera wide angle lens, the edges of the field of view are about +3-4 stops. So, the camera tries to account for the brightness and then the windscreen view is even darker.
