Anyone find out what those pieces were? Bringing a old thread back as my buddy with a 2013 found some.

A wild guess but could it be from the oil pan pickup sump? Maybe they fell in the oil pan during assembly and those tabs are from the molds (similar to the hobby model kits).

I actually have seen these also.

Definitely a Ducati NA question, or someone who has taken the paginate engine apart.

Would like to know the final verdict as well, just out of pure curiosity.

If you read Wilksons posts before, he did split the engine apart and couldn't find anything.

Any of the 1299 guys see any of this during early oil chages?

my guess is , based on wilksons posts , :

at the factory there are temporary plugs put in the holes
- where the oil filter is for example -

these plugs might look like this .
Plastic pieces found in oil-3-8-hole-plug-big.jpg
and when they are removed to install the part in the hole the tabs sometimes break off

my other guess is they are part of a insert used in the oil filter (for example)

If they were part of some part inside the engine wilkson would have found them

btw thanks wilkson

Thanks for throwing this out there for me Whoopazz.
Went in for a 1st service, and they found two plastic pieces. The good, they were not melted or chewed up. The tech thinks, its from the oil pump
I didn't hear from them yet.
Looks like it's a mystery! My warranty expires in 8 day's, not sure what to think of all this.

It's worthwhile getting the R/H engine cover off and checking the plastic water pump gears, just to be sure.
You MAY find something like this....
