Thanks for the post. I'm way too new for this. Gonna read this over and over to understand it before I even start setting up my bike. This gives me more confidence to do it myself.

This might be a odd question but I am wondering does the bike need to be in the on position for the suspension settings to be in effect ( s model )? I usualy check my rebound setting first by pushing down and see how it rebounds to see if I am in the ball park with my adjustment. Or does the settings stay in the last position when the bike was turned off.

its better if you don't define total sag as "static sag with rider".... its either static (just bike) and race/rider (total or whatever). cool info but the terminology is a little off. max mcallister of traxxion dynamics wrote a book that sounds a lot like this.its called suspension 101 too...
rebound by far is where a lot of people go wrong. on most tracks (possibly all) are getting long in the tooth from the dang cars so the old mantra of stiffer for the track doesn't always work too well...but I promse you the KEY is getting the spring right. too stiff and the stored energy screws up the rebound by making you increase that circuit to slow down the unit after it compresses. and too stiff you max out the comp circuit. make sense?
two things and its just my opinion of course-
(1) the stock des on the s models can work and win races.
(2) the best lesson for me was "springs suspend and oil and damper circuits (not DAMPENING- that would be just pouring water on your forks) control movement.

As a syntax and proper word usage nerd, I appreciate the correction of "damper" from "dampening".

It remembers where it was set after you switch off. Its in the manual. Good idea to read. Lots of good stuff about your bike in there.
