Lightbulb The Sequential Tail Light

Hi guys

There were some posts here during the last months about sequential turn indicators (e.g. Motodynamic Integrated Tail Light).

The motodynamic light was never released, so I decided to build a tail light for myself

Next to sequential turn indicators the prototype does also include an aero like anti collision flash, a pretty clever brake modulator and a detection for the Panigale hazard lights mode.

Seriously You Rock

Gecko:

You engineering skills never cease to amaze me. Is this using the stock tail-light? If yes, can I send you mine?

If yes, just PM how much I owe you for it!!!

Since we both have SL's we have to use integrated tail lights & I do not like the one I have on my bike now.

Seriously great work.
Thanks from Gecko

Thanks!
It took me almost a week of labour.
I didn't work with microprocessors for the last 25 years, so it was time to get into it again. Many things have changed, everything became super cheap, easy and IDEs are nowadays open source, very cool.

First I built a Panigale turn light emulator, because I didn't want to do all testing directly on the bike. Then I built the prototype light and wrote the software (written in Ardunio C).

Programming and electronics is actually quite easy, I decided for an attiny85 processor and programmable RGB LEDs.
The most terrible part is opening the OEM tail light. Almost impossible without cracking something. This took hours! I did it with the OEM light and a cheaper chinese one. The chinese one is actually better to open, and has a smoked instead of a red glass. So I put all the LEDs into the chinese housing.

Before installing the light into the bike I will switch to a bigger processor that is capable to communicate with an electronic 3-axis accelerometer: this will allow me to do the brake light modulation dependend on the bike's deceleration.
Thanks from Phl, flobrandx, BigBoost and 4 others

Incredible! Hats off to you Gecko - that light unit looks awesome. So what are your next steps/plans? Will you market or bask in the glory of having the only version of this and have us dribble with jealousy?
Thanks from Gecko

Thank you BigBoost.
Exactly, this light is going to be installed into the SL's rear. I know exactly what you mean

The only problem in producing more tail lights is the mechanical housing, I would have to have a vendor that sells open ones
Maybe somebody on this Forum has access to the chinese market?
