Breaking off the stop could, in theory create an invisible stress crack that could grow over time and fail at some point in the future.

You should replace the part or at the very least have it magnafluxed.

In reviewing NYANDY's picture it seems the stops are part of the casting (i guess the triple is hollow, which makes the situation worse) so breaking the stop off can compromise the integrity of the triple.

That being said, there is a chance that its fine but there's also a chance that it could break with the next wheelie or pot hole.

I wouldn't take the chance since we know very little about the panigale.

Point taken, but I think the steering head base is aluminum, so a magnaflux inspection won't work. Aluminum would need a dye penetrant inspection, which we use all the time in aerospace applications. I'll see if I can get one done.

Confirmed. Lower triple is hollow.

If you google around, some people say a $50 weld job fixed it, others the shop won't work on it because of the liability - which implies something else could go wrong - see if you can find a used one. I am guuessing you can't claim this on insurance, because that is the ultimate fix.

1 Insurance
2 Used part
3 Weld
4 taking chances

I'd probably just have it replaced once I saved up the $$ for it and cursed the whole time doing so.... Sorry for your bad luck man.

I have been replacing the damaged pieces as I find bargains on them. So far I've bought:

left rear tail panel
left hand upper fairing (from a member here)
lower L/H fairing
Gear change lever

Still needed:
clutch lever (researching)
headlight fairing (maybe it will buff out?)

So while I think the epoxy fix is a little cheesy I think it will be OK until I find a used one. So far I've found "like new" bits for half of MSRP.

The part that sucks the most is the small dent on the gas tank. A new one is about $3K, so I might just put some R&G tank sliders on it and call it good.

The sad part is I was cut off by a buddy at work on his 848. Oh yeah $400 for a new helmet and I've been riding around in second gear now for a week waiting for the local dealer to get my gear shift lever in. Hate to mention the "heat" word but try driving in Honolulu in second gear in traffic.

I guess it depends on your comfort level. There are some things I just wouldn't take a chance on and this would be one of them. The helmet would be another. Sure it could be okay, but I just personally wouldn't take the risk.

Seems like you could get the tank repaired and may not even need to repaint. Sorry you have to through all this...

Hey guys, I am not an expert, but when my steering stop broke off, it didn't seem like a big deal. It atleast appears that the stop is attached to a sturdy piece of hardware (steering head base). What would cause that to crack after the steering stop has broken off?

The steering head costs around $560 and looks like a pain to replace. I'm trying not to go through my insurance. Thoughts?
R & G make great steering stops that cost $25.00 and they take about 5 minutes to install.. They work BETTER than the stock ones and have Derlin rubber cushions when you hit the stop while turning..
Cheap and they work..
