1299S or '13 1199R

Hey guys, looking at changing over from my old S1000RR to a panigale. Prices between the first gen 1199R and 1299S are fairly comparable, so which would you buy and why? My thought is that the R will likely hold its value better but both bikes are amazing!

Thanks heaps for any advice

Completely depends on the application and what you want out of the bike.

Mostly road use with a couple of track days a year. Not commuting, just a Sunday rider.

I'm biased because I made my choice, the 1299S.

The 1299S came about because many people complained about the loss of mid range on the 1199's compared to the earlier 1098/1198's.

To gain this mid range torque back, which is where most of us ride, rpm wise on the street, Ducati went with a slightly bigger bore, rather than a longer stroke.

You might get a slight advantage, on the track, with a 1199R, but it is minimal and you'll probably having to be riding 10/10th's to squeeze it out.

Both are great, but I think you'll be better served for Sunday morning fun with the 1299.
Thanks from youngR

as much as it's hard to pass on a R, i think in this case, the 1299S would be the better choice. It's newer, the engine is much better, the electronics are better, and you'll get clutchless downshifts which will completely change your ride

Had '13R, now have 1299, which I prefer for street especially mid range as ChrisE stated. For me seating, pegs, heat, wind/stability, and handling seem better as well on street. Fair point on resale of R, but I don't think either's good anyway given constant intro of new tech and editions... good luck, fun position to be in

Probably S is much better suit. Re sale value of R vs S is minimal if not nothing

By your description I'd say the 1299s. Now if you were talking the '15 up PaniR, then it would be a tough choice.

Thanks for the opinions lads. Seems like the 1299S will be the better option although historically the R's do seem to hold value well. If I do get the 'R I'll look at the tuneboy system to gain a lot of the 1299 advantages.

Thanks again guys
