Put my deposit down on the 1299S

Hi, all.

I just put my deposit down on a 2015 Panigale 1299S, last week.

I'm a grizzled veteran of Motorcycle riding and racing; been riding to work every day for the last 35 years, rain, shine, fog. I live in the North Bay area of the San Francisco Bay Area.

My present ride is a 2011 BMW S1000RR with quite a few mods and updates, aimed at making a better trackday bike and I have put 53,000+ miles on her in the last 4 years - Mostly commuting, with around 25 track days thrown in. We also have a Triumph 675 Daytona R that my wife rides and tracks.

I almost bought the Panigale 1199 when it first came out - a friend of mine is part owner of a local Ducati/Triumph dealership, but when I rode it, I didn't like the lack of low end and midrange and the heat from the pipes was atrocious. The 1299 looks to have fixed my gripes, so I'm committed to buying it, unless the test ride leaves me feeling it's not what I expect.

Cheers...
Thanks from Phl and Gunny Fitz

Are you actually Scottish??? If so, so am I. Originally from a wee village called Crail, about 12 miles from St. Andrews... I assume I should call you Jimmy??

Enjoy. Smart move. I have the 1199S and love it. The 1299 seems to be a better bike.

I see a trend here.. Lots of Scots on Motorcycles; there are a ton on the BMW S1000RR forum as well.

P.S. My user name is something people ask about a lot - It's my favorite beer, but no need to explain that to the Scotsmen on this Forum..

I've read a few reviews and I'm really just curious how much more low end it has and if they fixed heat issues at all(not sure how they could everything is routed the same way). Curious for others to start getting their bikes so we can hear from normal people

A very nice stable indeed. Welcome to the forum.
I run an 1199 with 15/42 sprocket set-up on the road and track. It appears to solve the problem of relatively lower torque in the mid-range. I can hardly wait to try out the new set-up on the track; first track day this year is Saturday - forecast is 76 and sunny!
